chapter 4

I worked as a cashier at the children's amusement park for 300 dollars a month.

The pay was low, but it was easy to do the job.

Moreover, watching the kids having fun inside the park could always bring a smile to my face.

I recalled my childhood. When I was playing, my mother would watch me happily.

I could even consider them my own kids, who were carefree and joyful.

I knew I was destined to be unable to live such a pleasant life.

Once, a child fell down. I went to help her up, but her mother accused me of negligence and claimed that the facilities were insecure.

Since I was not good at arguing, I could not retort.

In the end, I was yelled at. That woman even pushed me due to anger.

Another woman reminded the mother, "You’d better not irritate her. She has been diagnosed as having a mental disorder. It’s very possible for her to use violence.”

I looked at her, but I didn’t know that woman at all.

Later, it struck me that she was Ada’s friend.

Because of the conflict, someone called the police.

Not only did I lose my job, but I also ended up at the police station.

The police contacted Daniel, who came to get me out. He scolded me, "Can you just stop making me trouble? It’s useless for getting my attention!"

I repeatedly shook my head and apologized, "I’m sorry! I need a job. I thought no one would know my past."

Daniel looked annoyed and said, "You’re running out of money, aren’t you? Then, just tell me."

I looked at him with a serious face and said, "But you warned me not to bother you."

Daniel was rendered speechless by my words. He gave me some money without saying anything before walking away.

With that money, I went to a drug store nearby to buy painkillers.

That was when I felt dizzy, and I soon lost consciousness.

As I woke up again, the air was full of the smell of disinfectant.

My vision was blurry. I struggled to open my eyes to see clearly the person in front of me, who was in white.

Instantly, I was overwhelmed by fear and sickness. I believed the man was Tony.

I panicked and pulled the blanket over my head, trembling all over.

"Get away from me! I didn't say anything! Don't punish me, please!

"Please let me go! I don't want to stay here!" I screamed.

The blanket was pulled off, but I didn't dare to take further action. I just quivered more violently.

Tears of fear rolled down my cheeks.

I wondered why I was sent back to the psychiatric hospital.

I should have behaved myself in front of Daniel.

"Don't be afraid. You’re in the hospital. No one will hurt you here," a strange man's voice said near my ear.

I was stunned.

It was not Tony’s voice.

I cautiously looked up at the man.

He was tall, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a white coat, with a gentle expression on his face.

I found him a little familiar.

However, I couldn't remember who he was. My brain had been damaged, so my memory was poor.

"You fainted with a fever at the hospital entrance. How are you feeling now?" the doctor asked me.

I didn't answer him but hesitated and asked, "This isn't a psychiatric hospital, is it?"

A flicker of surprise crossed the doctor's eyes. He seemed not to expect me to be mentally ill.

"No, this is the Celandra Hospital," the doctor answered.

Only then did I remember that I had fainted on the way to the drug store.

Even though I knew I wasn’t in the psychiatric hospital, I was still panicked and didn't want to stay here a second longer.

However, the doctor stopped me from leaving the hospital, looking concerned. He said, "You are seriously injured. What did happen to you? How about I do a check-up and call the police for you?"

I immediately shook my head in panic.

I couldn't tell anything to the police, or I would be killed.

I asked the doctor for some painkillers and then inquired who had paid my medical bills.

A nurse nearby said, "Dr. Smith paid the bill. It was he who brought you there."

I expressed my thanks to Dr. Smith, "Thank you, Dr. Smith. How much is the medical bill? I'll pay you back."

He looked at me with his sophisticated eyes, took out his phone, and said, "Before talking about that, would you mind telling me your phone number?"
